Like many of you, we sent our Bear off to school to begin the next chapter in life. We were blessed to send our Bear with all the essentials to thrive and enjoy life on campus. Through social media and connecting with parents both internationally and domestically, in a very short amount of time we found ourselves welcoming multiple Bears into our family. With many Bears far from home we welcomed this opportunity to serve the needs of students and in some cases; we are just a local contact a parent can count on when emergent needs arise.
It was through parents reaching out and serving the Bears that we soon came to realize that not all Bears are equipped with the necessary essentials to enjoy campus life. We found that some Bears were “Sight Unseen, Two Suitcases and a Dream.” These are Bears that have arrived on campus with no prior visit, with only items that can fit in two suitcases and a dream of obtaining an outstanding education. Our initial response was a plan of action to reach out to friends and family to aid in support of providing essential items to these Bears.
Over the course of the past several years, we have been successful in our endeavors through this method. However, with the passing of time, our list of Bears has grown tremendously, and it is our desire to continue to serve as many Bears as possible. While the needs of the Bears continue to exist and grow, we have never charged anyone for what we have been blessed to provide.
Listed below you will find items we have been blessed to provide and we will strive to continue supporting the Bears just as if they are our very own.
Supplemental Food/Meals, Grocery/Toiletry Items, Off Campus Dining, Treat Bags, Clothing (under/outer), Rain Gear (Boots/Jackets/Umbrellas), Linens (Bed/Bath), Kitchenware, Books, Medical Transport, Airport Transport, Funding for Travel Meals, Wellness Calls and Visits, Vehicle Repair, Dorm Move In/Out/Storage, Tuition Assistance, Financial Aid Advocacy, Off Campus Housing Advocacy, First in Line Guidance, Mentoring, Scholarship Assistance and Internship Assistance.
The members of On Campus Mom have been serving the needs of Bears by providing supplemental meals, clothing, books, moving assistance and storage since 2019. Our team sprung into action on a more involved level in 2020 when the Covid-19 outbreak became a roadblock preventing many students from returning to campus to facilitate move out at the end of the semester. It was through completing proxy moves that it was discovered that many Bears were not fully equipped with the essentials that many students on campus enjoyed. On Campus Mom reached out to the community to fill these voids to supplement items that were lacking such as adequate bedding, clothing and bathroom linens. In order to facilitate providing on a much larger scale, oncampusmom.com was formed in March of 2021 with the concept of providing baked goods that the proceeds would benefit and fill the needs of students who were lacking in many areas. In October of 2021, The OCM Foundation, Inc. was registered with State of Texas as a non-profit entity and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) entity. The OCM Foundation, Inc. will strive to be an outside source that will continue to provide much needed items and funding to students from low income or middle of the road families.
A small act of kindness can change a life, a situation or an outcome.
We can teach the next generation to go forth and spread kindness by paying it forward post graduation.
We strive to Leave No Bear Behind by providing an outside funding source for useful essentials that either sustain or improve a student's quality of life while seeking an education.
Our goals are quite simplistic. Our plight is to provide for Bears who are lacking in any area that may negatively impact their ability to thrive, to belong and feel confident while attending college. It is our desire to ensure that No Bear Is Left Behind.
